Hydrated Alumina
Hydrated alumina, also known as hydrate or tri-hydrated alumina, is a chemical compound with the formula Al₂(OH)₃, obtained from the Bayer process.
This material is widely used as a raw material in the production of chemicals for water treatment, such as aluminum sulfate, which is essential for the clarification and purification of water in industrial and municipal processes. Its careful manufacturing ensures a high-purity powder, contributing to efficiency and safety in water treatment while maintaining rigorous quality standards.
In addition, hydrated alumina acts as a flame retardant and smoke suppressant. Above 250°C, aluminum hydroxide decomposes endothermically, releasing water and absorbing energy, which reduces the concentration of combustible gases and smoke. The formation of an Al₂O₃ layer creates a thermal barrier that limits oxygen diffusion, slowing down combustion. In colorifics, it is used as a raw material for pigments and applied in the formulation of ceramic pastes.
