Aluminum oxide, known as alumina, is a chemical compound with the formula Al2O3, produced from the calcination of hydroxide of aluminum. This hydroxide is extracted from bauxite using the Bayer process. The most common and stable phase of alumina is alpha (α-Al2O3), which has a hexagonal crystalline structure, making it extremely resistant and suitable for high-performance industrial applications.
