Fuam
Foams can be divided into two large groups: flexible foams and rigid foams. Flexible foams are easily moldable, providing comfort, such as mattresses and insoles. Rigid foams are present, to a large extent, in the structures of buildings and industries. To bring greater safety to the product, industries add the hydrate to its composition.
Hydrated alumina is used in foams due to its flame retardant properties, as it releases water when heated, helping to reduce the flammability of the material. Furthermore, it improves the mechanical resistance of foams, increasing their durability and structural stability. The high purity of hydrated alumina minimizes contamination, while its chemical stability guarantees the integrity of the foams in different environments. Its ability to disperse uniformly in the foam matrix results in a homogeneous structure, contributing to consistent and efficient performance of the final product. Furthermore, hydrated alumina is used as a filler in PU and PVC foams due to its low cost.
